October 17 – 21 was Maths Week this year and we adopted a whole school approach in Scoil Choca Naofa, having fun with maths in school that week. A special word of thanks to all the teachers for the extra time and effort they put into helping the children have a wonderful week filled with indoor and outdoor activity in maths.
- Monday: Maths in the Hall/Library
- Tuesday: Maths in the Yard
- Wednesday: Whole School Maths Assembly
- Thursday: Maths in the Curriculum
- Friday : Maths Trails
Monday was Maths in the Hall/Library : the library and the hall were awash with different maths puzzles and games for the children to solve. Each class took it in turn to solve their given age appropriate tasks. The older children did a super job mentoring the younger pupils. Here we see Senior Infants at work with Ms. Byrne’s Class and Ms. Quinn’s Class enjoying some of those early activities on Monday in the Halla. It’s a Thumbs Up! from the children as they enjoy playing their maths board games.
Ms. Heffernan and her First Class, meanwhile, were beavering away in the library with their jigsaw puzzles and Connect Four games.
Tricky puzzles to solve at the tables in the library! Tangrams to solve, number bonds and much more before the day was out.
More photos to follow from other classes that week. A special word of thanks to Ms. Mahon, Ms. Diggin, Ms C. Heffernan and Ms A. Quinn who helped all the classes and teachers to co-ordinate their week of activity. Ms. Ní Loinn did a super job capturing the children on video as they performed a poem or song for their Maths Assembly mid-week.
